Towards the end of Burning Man 2018 we bounced some ideas around, bombastic bass art car being one of them.

In a series of video calls across the Atlantic we hammered out the basic framework of what we want and what we can contribute. Wild and funny brainstormings led us to a key conclusion that we want to bring interaction to the playa and that there has to be a capsule.

Based on this we co-developed the concept of “Rock the Capsule | A Space-Themed Transformative Art Interaction”, for which we have submitted a grant application.

To our immense pleasure we have been invited to submit a full art grant application for our proposed project. A further step on the long way to landing art on the playa has been taken.

Lift-off — We have submitted the full art grant proposal.

Sadly our honoraria request has not been granted. We want to thank the grant committee for giving us the chance of submitting a full proposal. The feedback from them gives us courage but at the same time it is hard to see where we could improve:

Being invited to submit a full proposal means that your project is the type of project we would potentially fund. That’s a great sign, and it means you’re on the right track. The grant process has so many variables from year to year, and projects are not judged in a vacuum: they’re examined as part of the overall landscape of other projects submitted that year.

So maybe in the future we will try again and fail better.
