The Construction

The capsule shape works quite well to give space to 4 people to enter and recline. The outer shell would be dust proof - either fabric, wood, or metal - and painted to achieve the proper spaceship aesthetic and groove. Windows would be a construction coup, but could also be painted on.

The participants would enter using a hatch on the front side of the capsule, accessible by a small ladder/steps. The hatch can be closed (locked) if the interaction with the art piece is paused.

Once the team of four has entered there are 4 reclining capsule launch chairs ready to be occupied. Either the occupancy of the chair is the trigger or a button has to be pressed by each person to activate the process.

We could hand out mini non branded energy bars to all participants as transformation inducers (no, not soaked in anything illegal). To induce even greater relaxation, a minty scent could be introduced into the capsule.

When the process is started a disco ball on the ceiling of the capsule starts rotating calmly to project a starry sky within the capsule. The song starts playing gently in the background and instructions are displayed (or spoken). During the process the volume rises slowly and the remaining time and the decibels are displayed to create some drama. If the required level is reached at anytime during the process the transformation process is judged as successful. This could be indicated by engine noises playing and the seats vibrating.

For this to work we would need one or two simple displays capable of showing text messages (e.g lyrics, dB, countdown) and a small sound system to play the music and engine sounds. The displays can be mounted on top of the sound system behind or below the participants. If we use just a single song, we could paint the lyrics on the capsule.

Once the process is completed the participants are encouraged to vacate the premises, e.g. first playing a nice message (“Good night ladies” by Lou Reed) and increasingly louder alarm type sounds if the seats are not left within time.

For the night lighting we could install a flashing or turning beacon (think lighthouse) onto the top and LED lighting chains around the bottom of the capsule. As basic infrastructure we would need a small generator to deliver power and the generator housing as prescribed by BMORG.
